A couple of months ago, I was talking with two of my friends and fellow Makeup Artists ( Jenny Le and Nou Yang) about putting together a Look Book for brides to view so they can get ideas for their individual styles. The idea is to show them several different styles for makeup and hair to help them better plan for the big day. We worked together to come up with 8 different looks that we are seeing now and that we think will be up and coming.
We got so excited about it that we put our heads together and reached out to all of the wedding vendors in the area that were able to help us out last minute to put together this very successful Look Book Shoot. The looks were: Boho, Vintage, Modern, Classic, Romantic, Ethereal, Glam and International. We contacted previous brides and friends to be our models, split up the looks and got to work. The shoot was done in the NoDa district in Charlotte, NC at a studio space called Area 15. It was a last minute location that turned out to be perfect as there is beautiful natural lighting in the upstairs studio spaces and we had two rooms to work in. Using loaned backdrops from our friend Kathryn Godwin at Studio Cultivate and a backdrop that one of the makeup artists made, we created themes that worked for each look.
It was such an amazing day with lots of laughter and creative collaborations. None of this would have been possible without the whole team that came together last minute. Our team of hairstylists were killer. They jumped in to this idea with both feet and made our looks really come to life. Thanks so much to Dana Figueira, Tracey Spruill and Aura Claytor — If you are looking for a hair stylist for your big day make sure to check out these ladies because their work is impeccable.
Also a big thanks to Aubre’s Bridal for her styling skills and accessories. I am learning more and more how important styling is at any shoot and Aubre is truly the best. Not only did she have beautiful accessories that really pulled together each look but she went above and beyond what I would have ever imagined. For one of our looks she really wanted to use a specific piece that she had not brought with her, so she left the shoot and drove to her shop to pick it up to make the look just right. I was beyond impressed and so grateful for her hard-work and passion!
For the dresses we reached out the Fabulous Frocks of Charlotte. Fabulous Frocks offers upscale consignment dresses and amazing customer service. We also got two of our dresses from Erin Bohanon of RCB Fashions, she is a local designer with beautifully crafted pieces. If you are looking for something custom and one-of-a-kind, RCB Fashions is for you. Erin is incredibly talented and stayed all day so that she could custom-fit each of her dresses to the models.
What is a bride without her bouquet? For our floral needs we reached out to P.A. Reavis Designs who not only made our beautiful bouquets but also created a beautiful flower crown that was too perfect for our BoHo look.
Possibly the most important part of this shoot was our insanely talented photographer Houa Vang. She came in very last minute on this project and worked her magic to make each look come to life. Her skill is not only masterful but she made these studio spaces look like an actual set! She was working with mostly real women (not models) and knew exactly how to get them to pose to make them look like professional models. Houa is so kind and it was an honor to work with her on this project. If you want to see more of her work, check her out on Facebook at Houa Vang Photography.
